The land of blog

Find the seed at the bottom of your heart

and bring forth a beautiful flower

-shigenori kameoka

Yesterday I attended an all day training for women in politics. It was designed to prepare women to run for office.  I attended to get a better understanding of politics as I am working on a campaign to elect my girlfriend to the house of representatives.  I enjoyed the conference and learned so much more than I had ever anticipated. So much of it could be applied to every day life and business but there was one thing I totally disagreed with. The presenter asked if anyone had a blog, mine was the only hand waving proudly in the air, 50 or so women. I was told it was detrimental to my character and a complete waste of my time. Well obviously she has never experienced the true friendships and undying support shared in blogland.

I understand that if you’re running for office, which I am not, you have to be careful about what you put out in print and every waking moment is focussed on how to get yourself elected but there is something very special here that I would have difficulty leaving behind.

It is in that spirit that I posted the quote above. The land of blog and all of you have allowed a tiny seed deep down in my heart to emerge and blossom into something extraordinary and I thank you for that!

  1. I agree with you. For those running for office, the advice is better safe than sorry and certainly someone could take offense to a blog’s content or even one word, but to say that it is a waste of time is someone who has only a narrow understanding of blogging’s potential.

People are starting to understand the power of blogs. Case in point: the mayor of Portland’s communication director contacted me about a recent post because he wanted their side represented. I don’t live in Portland and have never met the mayor, but they still felt compelled to request that I offer their two cents to my small audience.

  2. First, the photo: OOOOOOOOoooooooooo. I LoVe! The purple, the green, the depth of field! It’s magical. Springalicious!

Good for you, helping your friend in her political endeavors and attending the conference. We must never stop growing, never stop learning. You, my little Junie Bug are a very well rounded woman…in all the right places! teehee!

Oh bloggy LoVe. Only those who have not experienced it would say such a thing. It’s real. True connection of the human spirit. I think we all came here to fill a need or find our way, or find ourselves again. I found more than I was looking for. I found my Yayas…a group of three or more women whose herats and souls are joined together by laughter and tears shared through the glorious journey of life. Ah, yes, life is good. I love you big!

  3. Wonderful photo and yea for you. Even if I was running for office I would still keep my blog. The age we live in requires savy social media whether a blog, twitter, facebook, etc. How you handle yourself on any of these venues is a reflection of your character and who you are. Junie girl, blog on and I hope your friend is successful in her new endeavor. Sea Witch

  4. That to me was harsh and inaccurate. Blogging is wonderful..to me the speaker is losing out big time.
Kudos to your girlfriend and you helping her get elected to congress.

  6. I really resent what she implied about you and running a blog. I think you’re a woman of great character and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I would not trade the friends I made through blog land for the world.
