Someone once said… “Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.”

Longevity I’ll drink to that

 (Borrowed this image from google)

Goji berries- mircle food or just the latest hype in the promise for longevity? I’m a big fan of the Dr. Oz fan show and his book. Yesterday he was suggesting a new recipe or longevity shake, I don’t think drinking a daily longevity shake is  the secret to long life but I am tempted to try it. I found the recipe on the DrOz sight. Has anyone out there ever tried goji berries or know what MACA powder is? I think I need an educational trip through the health food store. If I mange to find the ingredients I’ll let you know how it tastes. I may just opt for a good ole blueberry shake for breakfast instead. Have a healthy weekend.

  1. Oh dear, I am such a fool for magazines and health products, hair products, and make up. They all give the promise of a better life. So perhaps it is the fact that we WANT to live better that makes us feel better. Nothing wrong with a new healthy habit. Just watch out…the health food store can be quite an expensive habit. Now I’m going to go check out your link. Interesting… Happy Friday my little Junie love. **kisskiss** Deb

  2. Javajune, here is what I’ve learned, and believe is accurate:

    1. Don’t eat American processed foods. They are intentionally made full of fat, salt, and sugar because we are programmed by evolution to long for those things. To see what I mean, start to read food labels and you’ll be amazed at how many products contain, for example, “high fructose corn syrup”.

As you may already have discovered, after you’ve avoided American processed foods for a while you’ll begin to taste the unnecessary added salt sweetness in things. For example, I recently I even found a LOT of high fructose corn syrup in Wishbone oil and vinegar salad dressing. They’d added so much of that stuff it actually made the dressing so sweet it tasted bad.

    2. Don’t eat fast food. See 1 above.

    3. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruit (just like mom said!)

    4. Eat a lot of fish.

    5. Omega-3 fatty acids are good for you. Eat a lot of salmon, and, yes, even sardines.

    6. Eat brown rice in place of white rice and whole wheat pasta in place of regular pasta. (Both are more nourishing and have more bran than their white counterparts.)

    7. For a high protein shake that tastes good, look for the product “Spiru-tein” in the health food store and make it with ice and skim milk for breakfast and snacks. It’s good and a good source of protein!

    8. Eat bran flakes. (But not familiar raisin bran, etc. They have had bad old high fructose corn syrup added to them.)

    9. In general, avoid red meat and grilled meat.

    10. The supplement resveratrol concentrates one substance found to be healthy in red wine. (Unfortunately, it only stays active in your body for a short time after taking it.)

You look pretty health to me already, though…

  3. Goji berry other wise known as wolfberry. They can be found at an chinese herb store but i found mine at our local whole food store (wildoats) about $16.00 a pound. MACA Root Maca Powder is a nutrient dense superfood which supports all body systems to perform at optimal levels.
