Grandpa’s are the Best!!!
Busy, busy day but I’ll be back later to visit my favorite cyber peeps later.
Happy Father’s Day!
A flicker of inspiration is twinkling in my brain. It must be the gorgeous weather we’re having. Some say it’s too hot but I am at my best when the weather is hot, wearing nothing more than a tank top and shorts, no shoes, no sleeves, nothing to confine me.
I have a million pictures and dozens of quotes traveling through my brain as a quiet breeze blows through my window.
“believe in the magic and your dreams will follow”
Tonight I will be revisiting my past. A dozen or so girls from my graduating class are getting together for a night of laughter and reminiscing, a few I haven’t seen in twenty years, others I run into on occasion. I can’t wait to listen, hug and giggle the night away. We reconnected on facebook and decided it was time for a face to face.
As a teen I couldn’t wait to get out of school and move on with my life and now after more than twenty years I can’t wait to go back to those years and visit the friends I left behind. It’s funny how that works. You are always looking for the next best thing but can’t wait to go back to the good old days. I’m sure this meet-up has something to do with the reason I have been so preoccupied about where I’ve gone with my life.
Thank you Shell and Seawitch for your words of wisdom.
When I first started junior high I used to dream about walking down the long halls lost and late for class. Last night I revisited that dream. It’s funny how certain things never leave you.
Tonight I will be toasting to old friends and I’ll probably realize that life hasn’t really changed all that much.
clink, clink to old friends and new
After enduring many days of blowing snow and frigid temperatures Milo’s visit to the crazy kingdom of this and that began to improve. A fabulous party was under way and he was the guest of honor. He danced, he ate, he laughed and then the moment he had been waiting for came to pass. It was time to meet the peculiar Princess Giselle and her wee under study Fabulous Fairah. He graciously offered his hat to the princess as she inspected his dapper attire. The giggling, the kissing the sugary snacks, it was almost too much for a bug who had spent the better part of his life in Debra’s closet.
Milo with the peculiar princess of peppermint peak
Milo with Fabulous Fairah, a princess in training
Alas it is time for this traveling bug to head on down the road for a visit to Linda at Lime in the Coconut. His journey will begin after a wee winters nap.
Thanks Debra for sending Milo on this world tour. He will be on his way in a few days.
Are you ready to party? ? ? Well put your party socks and dancing shoes on. It’s time for a little pre-party tailgate.
We’re celebrating along side the big bash at A Fanciful Twist with Miss Vanessa the party queen .
I sent my party fairy to deliver the invitations. “Hey little one Don’t forget to stop by Deborah, Shell, Renee and Libby’s place.” Oh well she has the guest list.
It looks like our the first quest has arrived. Love that skirt. Hmmm, I feel under-dressed. I think I know who those feet belong to. Renee is that you in those red shoes?
Funky shoes, crazy legs and a fabulous dog. That has to be Deborah the Mid-life poet. I’d know those legs anywhere.
Join me and the rest of the gang for a little cup of tea. Have you seen my rabbit?
Miss D is helping herself to the tea. I noticed that she’s trying to show up the hostess with a designer headpiece. I’m not surprised.
Hurry up before the cupcakes are gone. We’ll pretend not to notice the little frosting up her nose. It wouldn’t be fitting for a princess to be seen like that.
All it takes is a little sugar before the guests get out of hand.
Yeah, I went all out for this party and hired the most expensive entertainment. Show tunes anybody?
I told you there’d be dancing! Will you look at her over there. Shell I know you like to dance but not on the piano please.
It’s looks like some of the guests are getting a bit restless. It must be time for a goodbye tour.
Goodbye Libby, goodbye everybody, thanks for coming. Now follow the little garden fairy over to A Fanciful Twist to join the celebration.
I’m sending you with a little cupcake love to share with Miss Vanessa, she inspired this Mad party tailgate. You can’t miss her, she’s the one in the fabulous outfit covered in frosting. I hope her cupcake towers were a success. Come back when you have more time to chat.
Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a magic fairy giveaway. Can you see her? Oh yeah, that’s right she’s magic.
he hee-you’ll love her.
Love, love this!
The belly shoot was definitely a trip. What an amazing time in a young woman’s life. My fave shot is the one with the little pink bunny hanging to the side. They turned out quite well considering they were taken in a small room full of stuff. I set up a little spot with an antique white chair covered in pink tulle, furry white rug, with my wedding veil hanging over the window to diffuse the light and make everything soft and delicate. There is so much beauty and magic made by the click of a shutter in diffused light.
I remember when, showing your pregnant belly was a no no. I’m so glad we’re past that era. A pregnant woman and her growing belly are a beautiful thing and should be celebrated. The princess thinks so- matter of fact she now thinks there is a baby in her belly too.
Now there is something totally unrelated to pregnancy and bellies that I want to mention. It’s something that’s driving me crazy but also intriguing me at the same time. Okay, before I try to explain let me give you a visual of where I live. I’m in mid-michigan, a rural bedroom type community (pretty boring) my house is on the out-skirts of town. I live in the very last house at the end of a city subdivision. If I take just a few steps to the east or north I’m in the country. I’m surrounded by open meadow, woods and a large pond; it’s beautiful but does presents a few problems. We are over-run by critters: coons, skunks, deer, field mice an occasional coyote and oh yes wild cats. I love animals and have been known to come home with a stray or two in my day but I’ve been warned no more animals. I don’t need any more pets as I have 3 little dogs and 2 little birds. I’ve had cats before but have no desire to own one at this time- except for this one.
Okay this photo doesn’t due him/her justice. (I think it’s a her) I took it through my office window as she was running away. Her fur is short but fluffy and the most gorgeous colors of creamy white and chocolate brown, her eyes are amazing too. She’s a Manx cat (I think) who hangs out on my porch and looks in my windows but runs when she sees me. I have begun leaving food out for her as I’ve witnessed her getting thinner over the past two weeks. We call her bunny butt because she looks like a bunny and moves like one at times. It’s so strange if you see her from behind you almost mistake her for a rabbit until she turns and you see this cat head on a bunny body- it’s awesome. The first time I saw her drinking out of the bird bath I thought she was some kind of cross between a bunny and a cat. I’ve seen bob-tailed cats before but she’s different.
This image is pretty bad because it was shot through my office window at mid-night. She hangs around my house all day and night but waits for my office lights to go out before she comes up to the porch. I waited in the dark and then snapped this- see I’m obsessed! It’s a pretty bad photo and doesn’t begin to show how beautiful she is.
Mr. Java likes her too but when I talk about luring her in and making her our pet he just wags his finger at me. It would probably turn into a circus in here if she came indoors. Two of my little dogs don’t like cats and this cat is a fierce hunter, I”ve watched her in action, so the birds would be in jeopardy. I realize the pitfalls of trying to domesticate a wild cat but still there is this part of me that thinks she desperately wants to come inside and be my pet. I may be delusional but why else would she hang out on my porch and peek in my windows- this all started before I began feeding her.
What do you think- aside from the fact that I’m crazy and have too many pets already. Have any of you seen a cat anything like this? Am I right when I say she’s a Manx cat? I’ll let you know if anything changes or she magically becomes my friend.
Enjoy your weekend. I may have to buy a boat if it doesn’t quit raining. Maybe I should be looking at some building plans for an arch rather than trying to tame wild cats 😉
I wonder what they’re talking about in that cozy little bakery. A little gossip perhaps? Probably more like “why the heck is that crazy lady hanging out the window of a moving car while taking our picture?” Do you ever see something that looks so cool or quaint that you just can’t pass up the opportunity to capture it, even if it means putting yourself and on-coming traffic in danger? Yeah, I really should quit that, but sometimes I just can’t help myself.
I loved the name of this place “The Garden Bakery” and the look of the bake goods all lit up behind the customers who are chatting away, was kind of charming. It was so quaint in a retro chic kind of way. Just setting in the middle of nowhere. Okay it wasn’t too far from a lake but still miles away from town. I’m a sucker for anything dreamy, charming or chic. I guess it’s the hopeless romantic side of me that can’t resist.
The image didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted but the expression on the chick to the left is worth the shot. I had to wonder about the topic of conversation or taste of the delightful pastries and freshly poured coffee. Yum! It was a nasty day outside and the cozy atmosphere looked so inviting. I should have stopped for a bite and maybe an ear-full of the local gossip, next time for sure.
I just had to share this drive-by with you, just a quicky to warm up this snowy day.
Junie’s turn on the sofa.
Okay time for a little rant about what’s happening in my life. Don’t roll your eyes it might be interesting- so listen up. There are weird people hanging out in my email again. I guess you might call them email stalkers. Some want to comment on how I look while others tell me they are visiting a certain city and in need of female companionship. eeehhhhhw!
Well here goes my rant…. I don’t care if you like or don’t like the way I look-I’m not sending pictures!!! sicko!! I am not a madame or a call girl, never have been and never will be!!! are you high? I don’t want to see your pictures- no matter what you look like!!! again eeehhhhw!
Okay now with that said…. I will admit I am a bit of a free spirit and a crazy girl but that doesn’t equal a psycho chic or desperate babe. This is an unusual blog (yes) but I like things outside the box- not strange- just a little outside the box.
So if you are weird, creepy, very strange or looking for a hooker for the night…Stay out of my email! If on the other hand, you have a confession to make, a secret to share, or a rant that you would like me to post… Then you are welcome! You can even stop by to say hi or leave me feedback on what you like or don’t like about the blog but no stalkers please!
Can you tell I have fully recovered and I’m back to my feisty old self? Now if I could just get my writing grove back and get this damn book finished… I would be a happy, free spirited, crazy girl, living just outside the box. I think I’m finnished rambling… Thanks for listening. Love you all…well most of you 😉
Junie has had a rough week and needed a little time on the sofa to recuperate. ( a little word of advice- stay away from the recalled peanut crap) These are my delirious rambles while laying back with a cool cloth to my head.
Peanut crap – very bad… this sofa – too hard… where is that damn maid – oh yeah she’s having a sick day… no work – no money… show me the money! (I said I was delirious didn’t I)
Speaking of money, a while back the Sofa Diary was busting at the seams with controversy over the recent spawn of Gifting Circles. I received numerous emails and comments on the subject. At one point I was told that a contributor’s life was in danger and asked to delete or amend several comments to protect her identity. WHOA!!! Stop… What? her life is in danger? For real??? The contributor said she was being threatened and exposed by one of my readers. Yes it got that HOT! I did some editing and deleting of comments as requested and all was calm for a while. Below is an excerpt from one confession.
“I can’t believe I gave our vacation fund to a group of women who promised me friendship and easy money. I met this stranger in the McDonald’s parking lot and handed her an envelope with 5k of my families savings inside. I knew very little about her, only that she was a friend of my neighbors and sounded very persuasive on the phone. She said this was totally legal and not a pyramid scheme. Why then, did we have to meet in the Micky D’s parking lot and why did I hand her 5k in cash in an unmarked envelope. I didn’t get a receipt or even her phone number for that matter, she had called me.” Read the rest of her story right here.
Recently I have recieved more requests for information on these Gifting Circles and decided to replay some posts and comments from the past. If there is anyone who can add their own experiences with this money making venture… please jump into the mix by leaving a comment or confession. Please do not use your real name. I don’t want any more dramatic emails or the need to use the delete button. I have the power! I love that!!!
Here are a few comments that were left by our readers, between several posts about the madness of Gifting Circles.
“My sister was on here talking about a gifting circle she joined, and her boss helped her join, she has since been let go from her job. The economic times are though, but her boss helped her join my giving her money and now she had to be let go. I’m sure her boss feels terrible. I know she hasnt been back on here due to no internet access. She is from the MI area and has 3 kids who are school aged, now she has no job. Her mother has given her money from all of this but she is only in the beginning stage of this gifting stuff. It’s all very sad, but I thought I would updated on her part since she isnt able to get back on here and tell her story. I’d appreciate no comments to be, as I am just the messanger! My sister was taken into something then her job was in jeapordy over it, it’s very unfortunate. She made it sound better than it was. Please keep your eyes open to people who will take advantage of you.”
“Don’t do it”
“I am in the gifting circle. I can guarantee in the state of Michigan this is not illegal. In my gifting circle i have a judge. Along with this judge she has brought three other females who also work for the state to join. Im pretty positive they wouldn’t jeopardize their jobs. you are allowed to gift $12,000 dollars a year. You are only gifting $5,000 to a single person. No wrong doing their. Its a great opportunity, I strongly suggest joining. It does seem too good to be true but believe me, its all true. You technically don’t have to put the full 5K in you can be sponsored by someone or share with someone where you would put 2,500. I strongly suggest going to a meeting, you cant do anything but benefit from this situation.”
“Totally stupid and illegal as hell”
“These are not illegal, I am a cop & there is nothing much we as cops can do. Sorry, but thats the truth”
I’ve been told that it’s an illegal pyramid scheme by some and that it’s not illegal or a pyramid scheme by others. This topic is the most hit-on subjects on my blog and generates a lot of controversial discussion and comments. Can you believe that this subject tops all the sexy , smutty stuff? That just proves it… money is more powerful than sex 😉 Feel free to throw your 2 cents or 5k in about the matter. The tough economic times and lousy stock market are generating new money making ideas/schemes. Crazy Times= Crazy people. There is an allure to meeting in secrecy while exchanging wades of cash. Hell, the thought of easy money is tempting enough. I have to admit that it is very enticing but mostly just interesting. ( my money will remain stuffed in the mattress) Take a look at a previous post with comments in its entirety here.
Below is an excerpt of my original post that started the whole frenzy.
“I wasn’t born yesterday, far from it, but why do I feel so tempted to do something so stupid and very illegal? I was approached a few days ago about joining a Woman’s Gifting Circle. The invitation came from an old friend for a girls night of food and sharing. She said it was a gifting club for woman where they get together and talk while exchanging gifts.” Read the rest of this post and comments right here.
Hope you enjoyed this little blast from the past. Remember stay away from the peanuts! That crap took me on a very, very baaaad trip 😦
