Snow Day

As I sit here chatting with you I’m reminded of my a day in the ’70s when the snow came with a vengeance. The drifts were so high we couldn’t see out our living room window. The roads were impassable, even the highway we lived had become a sledding hill. I was a child so this predicament was no inconvenience to me, it just ment no school for a week.  Wahoo!!!

We’ll we are definitely not that point today but the 5 or six inches across the lawn is both beautiful and very inconvenient. The trees looks gorgeous all dressed in white and the ground is so pristine under a thick blanket of fluff. The skies are heavy and pasty and the chill has sent a couple wild cats into my garage for shelter. They sneak through the doggie door and make themselves comfortable. My dogs are baffled at the audacity of these creatures who lay in their doggie beds and snarl at every passer-by.

It might be a couple more months before we see the sun again and I hope I can last that long. Hey, Deb maybe you should get my room ready, just in case I decide to make an emergency trip to the desert. Hee he…

There is plenty to do inside and when I feel a little cabin fever setting in I can just fire up the wii and go for a run. I have never been a fan of winter but I don’t remember it bothering me nearly as much when I was young.

I had to share this picture of the princess in her “Snow White” jelly pumps,( she has the entire set of Disney princess shoes) flipping through a book. Her hair had been in tiny pony tails but after she removed the ribbons they remained as little stubs upon her head-too cute!

Enjoy your day no matter the weather- if you’re some place warm and sunny please soak up some warmth for me. I’m headed off to work.  We have transformed the store to look like springtime-love it!

Cozy incarceration

IMG_1774

It’s quickly approaching the time of year when our thoughts turn inward. It’s time to cozy up our homes with a warm blanket or a new set of flannel sheets.  Freshly baked pumpkin muffins and a hot cup of tea  comes to mind as the perfect afternoon snack. I am not a fan of winter but I do enjoy cozy thoughts, like a big bowl of homemade soup, (wide egg noodles, chicken stock, roaster chicken, chanterelle mushrooms, fresh herbs and lots of garlic) a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream, or a pair of fuzzy slippers and a thick fury blanket.

I’ve begun the process of cozying up my home with a few softly scented candles and a new fofur sofa throw. I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect pair of cozy slippers and a new pair of woolen mittens. The long dark winter of cold and incarceration makes me feel as though I’m being punished, which initiates the sense of entitlement that forces me to treat myself to a few comforts along the way. I have yet to make it through a holiday shopping season without buying myself a new pair of warm pj’s and a fresh set of flannel sheets.  The notion that finding the perfect pair of boots and a few other toasty accessories will somehow make the winter a little more tolerable has been debunked but that doesn’t stop me from trying it again and again. So I’m gearing up for the up-coming months of hibernation but I’m trying to enter this season with fresh eyes and an upbeat attitude. A few months of cozy incarceration never killed anybody, right? If you said right, then I have to ask- how well do you know Junie? Cabin fever here I come!!!

Confessions of a Daydreamer

oceanside

I just had to let you in on my day dream. Yes it’s a fantasy, but we are allowed those. I was cool hunting this morning and came across my dream job. I admit I am a bit of a cloudy headed day dreamer, silly heart and all around crazy girl with her feet always partially off the ground.  Well,  you didn’t expect that  June Cleaver was running this blog did you?

How would you like to get paid to walk the beach, snorkel the barrier reef, take pictures, and keep a daily blog about your activities? Did I mention that a modest pay of $150,000 Aussie dollars ($105,000 us) comes with this fabulous job? No I’m not suffering from cabin fever or indulging in one of my winter fantasies. I assure you this is real ! So real that I am jumping up and down while gazing out my window that is blanketed in a thick layer of snow which promises to continue amidst the dipping temperatures that will be in the single digits by dinner time. This would be my fantasy job. I love, love the beach and everything about the sea. I’m all over it. Want to take a peek for yourself? Check it out right here. Yes, Yes, I’m there !!! Where do I sign up, you say. Your next statement will probably be…help the employment link doesn’t work.
Can you say system overload?

Get in the long line of crazy, blog addicted, sun starved, unemployed individuals just itching for the chance to be island caretaker to Hamilton Island’s Great Barrier Reef in Australia. This list includes yours truly. Although I haven’t applied yet, I have been dreaming about what it would be like.
Why- you ask- would the Queensland state government offer such a position. It’s a way to promote tourism for the beautiful land of Oz. Not too shabby for a temp job. This fab position does end after a six month contract and yes that means you must vacate the island of your dreams.

This past year proved to be a tough year of disappointment for many. Maybe this is a sign of what’s to come in 2009…who knows. These are crazy times we live in.

Just thought I would give my friends a peek into this crazy head of mine for just a moment. Now back to your regularly scheduled confessions.
