Someone once said… “Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.”

It’s time to refeather the nest

Shhhhh, don’t tell the big guy I’m having a spring fling! Don’t worry it’s not what you think.

A January frost is nipping at my toes which makes me a bit restless and a little, okay a lot, cranky. So I’m indulging myself in a little creative therapy.  I’m creating a few colorful niches, designing some interesting wall art, reorganizing, redecorating, fluffing, refeathering and well you get the picture.  ….and I love it!!!

The big guy is out-of-town and who knows what he’ll think of my creative spurt. It’s a little unusual and a bit on the  girlie side. Mr. Java is little more main stream and a lot more conservative than I. There are times when I wish I were a little more inside the box but no matter how hard I try everything I do comes out a little quirky.

The shadow box in the first pic had a orginal plan of being  filled with a cute little nest of eggs in front of a traditional bird print. But instead I added a Juicy Couture ad from an old vogue magazine and a little sea tree I found on the beach during last years trip to Captiva Island. Then I added three turquoise eggs, which according to Pantone is the color of the season, a few soft feathers and some vintage jewelry pieces.

The fashion picture was created from poster ads for Nordstroms department store and a couple scrapbooking flowers that I layered together and added vintage pearls to. The zen pic was created  for my bathroom to add a feeling of spa luxury. It’s a computer generated print thrown on a canvas with a little paint and homemade flowers.  A crisp white cabinet with glass panels went into the bathroom as well and I added a new throw to my bed.

The shadow box piece is my favorite and I have a yellow Canary just like the one in the print as for the hair- I wish. It’s been fun but now that the big guy is on his way home I’m getting a little nervous about his reaction, like it, love it, hate it, or tolerate it. Do you care to venture a guess at which way it will go?

Have a lovely weekend filled with a lot of inspiration and a little color….

Color me Pink

IMG_3914 2

I’m having a little color envy today. I love fall and her vibrant colors but I was in need of something a little lighter, something soft and dreamy. This pic filled the order nicely. It feels like only a few days have passed since I took this image when actually its been several months.

I’m looking forward to the greet and treat tomorrow night. I love to see all the little kiddos donning their favorite costumes. A few well placed candles flickering on the porch and me sitting in an open window with a big bowl of chocolate goodies in my lap.  My favorite music playing in the background and Mr. Java making the trip from the great room sofa to my office every now and then to take a peek at the scene. I sit on a stool just inside my window unless the weather is unusually warm, which is rare for Halloween night.

Have a spooky but safe Halloween and save some chocolate for the kids!

A whisper of fall crept through the window

IMG_3164

It’s that time of year when gardens fade and a nip in the air begins to alter the earth to a rich patina of fall color.  A few flowers are still hanging in but the garden’s vibrant colors are gone for the season. I took a little drive yesterday on a quest for the peafowl farm that sells peacock feathers along the road side. I had passed it by a few weeks ago but didn’t feel the need to stop. Yesterday that need came calling, so I set out on a hunt for a little turquoise and green. No feathers to be had but I did come across a beautiful field planted several acres deep with gorgeous sunflowers. It made my trip totally worth while.

The sky was grey and dull but this field offered the perfect pop of color to the country side. A whisper of fall crept through my window as I captured this shot. There are good things to be found in every season- remind me of that when I’m whining because the world outside my window is covered in white and temps are hovering below zero.

Faded roses are creeping their way into the play house window, making the love shack soft and dreamy. This rose is melting it’s way into the perfect shade of pink-love that! My favorite colors are soft pinks, creamy whites, mossy greens and chocolate browns. Mmmm

The English Oaks are showering me with an abundance of acorns in the perfect shades of mossy green and chocolate brown. The season is changing slowly and beautifully. I’m curious to hear about the signs of change in your neck of the woods. Tell me how Mother Nature lets you know that fall is just around the corner. Do you hear a whisper?

Studio Pink is in need of a little restocking so sometime this week I will be adding a few images to the shelves- stay tuned for that.

Have a colorful Monday.

Soft and Dreamy……

IMG_3915 2

Soft and dreamy,

like a whisper in my ear,

or a song in my head,

you were there.

The green grass tickled my ear,

as the sky begged my forgiveness,

you were there,

holding my hand,

kissing my cheek,

you were there,

and now we’re here.

Oh how I love soft and dreamy things. These roses are dried and have been sitting in a vase in my bathroom for about three years. I love how the colors are faded and just kind of melt one into the other. It sort of represents how I want to live my life, gently and beautifully melting one day into the next. I think I prefer life like that although sometimes there is the temptation to live it a little more intensely.

Doesn’t the sky sometimes just amaze you? Light and atmosphere are pretty amazing stuff. I won’t pretend to understand any of it- I barely passed chemistry. My mind works more in a  dreamy and fluffy dimension.

I have to tell you something embarrassing that happened to me on Monday but only if you promise not to laugh. Okay so now that you promised here goes… Sunday night about 11:30 pm  I’m watching tv in bed (bad habit of mine) and I notice my feet are in desperate need of hydration, so I grab some lotion out of the back of the cupboard and slather in on. Fast forward to Tuesday, I shower, dress and take off for the day. I’m handing money over to the clerk in a store and  and holy shit comes out of my mouth accidentally (I don’t swear very often) because I notice that the palms of my hands are brown and between my fingers and my finger nails all muddy brown. The clerk just raises an eye brow (i’m sure he washed his hands after touching my money) and says nothing. I get back to my car and look down at my toes peeking out of my sandals, they look filthy. Can you guess what happened?

Well, it took me a minute to figure it out. I must have grabbed some old self tanning lotion to put on my feet the night before. It must have gone bad because the color it left was not very appealing. It looked like I had been working in the muck fields and forgot to wash. I can’t believe that I didn’t notice it before I left the house. I must have been in one of my preoccupied modes.

Enjoy your weekend… The sun is finally out here after 3 days of overcast yuk. wahooo!!! (what is the correct spelling for wahoo anyway?)  Mr. spell checker says I got it wrong but he doesn’t know how to spell it either. Come on Libby you should know this after watching the spelling bee finals 🙂
