Someone once said… “Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.”

Believe in the magic

A flicker of inspiration is twinkling in my brain. It must be the gorgeous weather we’re having. Some say it’s too hot but I am at my best when the weather is hot, wearing nothing more than a tank top and shorts, no shoes, no sleeves, nothing to confine me.

I have a million pictures and dozens of quotes traveling through my brain as a quiet breeze blows through my window.

“believe in the magic and your dreams will follow”

I’m getting ready for a trip around the world

OWOH2010announce

When I first entered blog land a few years ago I hopped in with both feet by joining One World One Heart.  I loved the idea of people connecting from around the globe. It was an opportunity to share my world and something I made with a complete stranger who could be from anywhere. OWOH introduced me to some truly wonderful people and artists from around the world. I missed my opportunity to join last year but I have jumped on the band wagon just in time to take part this year.

I already have what I think is the perfect treasure to give away. It’s something I made a while back with the inspiration for freedom and the hope of living in a world of peace and acceptance. I can’t wait to become a part of this inspirational group once again. In 2009 there were 911 bloggers who participated from a total of 28 different countries- that’s amazing! This international event brings kindred spirits from all walks of life together and spreads a wave of love that’s hard to describe.

This could be a wonderful experience for you to meet new people and an opportunity to receive something lovingly made or bought by a kindred spirit from around the world. So stop by on January 25th when OWOH begins and sign up for my drawing. On that day’s post I’ll have a link to the whimsical bohemian so you can take a magic carpet ride around the world. Pack your bags for this fabulous trip that begins on January 25th and ends on February the 15th.

I can’t wait!

The dreamy atmosphere says- they get me

I’m the girl who gets lost in the mood, the atmosphere, and the hype. I walk into a store with the right music, the right colors and an atmosphere with that special something and it’s all over for me. I’m buying whatever they’re selling. Sometimes  you walk into a shop and you just know that they get you. I had that experience a few years ago at a local boutique, Octobermoon. I walked in the door and the music playing was from an artist that I love and listen to often, my favorite scent was floating through the air and when I struck up a conversation with the shop owner I could see so much of myself in her. I knew this would be a place I would frequent often.

This is how I feel when I look at a Martha Stewart Living Magazine or my favorite publication Claire Murray, La Vie and just how I feel when I enter the Anthropologie store or flip through their catalog. I’m instantly smitten and feel transported to a place where adventure and extraordinary style meet. Maybe I’m easily swayed or just maybe I’m the kind of girl who feels more than she thinks.

So many franchises rely on sales or lowest every day price and forgo the nice displays or inspiring atmosphere and in today’s market that works. But there are those shoppers who are swept up by the moment or buy into the dreamy lifestyle rather than the price- believe me they’re out there. Working as a sales associate at Pottery Barn has made me more aware than ever that I’m not alone. The temptation driven by a feeling of plush living works its magic on many.

So tell me what calls do you answer to: price, quality, atmosphere, or just pure temptation? Are you aware of that inner voice, buy me….

Feeling kind-of groovy

There’s nothing like meeting an old friend you haven’t seen in over 25 years. We were high school buddies that lost touch after graduation. We hugged, we laughed, we shopped it was amazing, just like we picked up where we left off. It’s funny how we think we’ve changed so much until we go back in time with a friend and realize that “hey, I am the same person I was  many years ago but just a little wiser and calmer. ” Before the day was over we both promised to meet again, sometime soon and we will.

Last night I got out a few holiday decorations and played around a bit. I love vintage looking bulbs and ornaments like bottle brush trees, mercury bulbs and oh yes I love, love my little blue deer. He is so groovy with his retro good looks and sparkly glitter and he has the tiniest bell around his neck.

Some of you had a few questions about the book, “A Sea of Whispers”, well this started out as a novel that never got published.  I’ve now taken the idea in a totally different direction.  Instead of a story about a woman whose life didn’t turn out as she planned, it became a book of inspiration through images and words. How does a novel become a coffee table book of inspiration, well remember who you’re talking to, the girl who changes course in mid-stream at the blink of an eye.  Wink, Wink…   This book is self-published and I hope to sell it in my e-store. I have to say that the quality of this book took me by surprise, it was superb. I was so afraid that the images may turn out too flat or pixellated or that my choice of lay-outs wouldn’t look just right. But as soon as  I unwrapped it, I feel in love. It feels wonderful in my hands and the images and layouts are exceptional. I made a couple tweaks and added a thing or two and then back to the publishing company it went. It’s not a cheap book to print but then I couldn’t except anything but the best quality. As soon as it comes back from the printer I will take some pics and share. I’ll keep you posted. Writing a book and being published has always been a dream of mine and so I decided to take matters into my own hands and just do it. I can’t wait to share it with you!

Well I’m off to get everything ready for my son, who is flying home from Oregon tomorrow. Yeah…. I hope he’s home for good. He ‘s a bit like his mother with stars in his eyes and wander-lust in his heart.

Have a magical Wednesday!!!

Lush and lovely

Dear Junie,

Love the journey not just the end result. I know you think you have things all figured out- you don’t. I know you think you can’t possibly have a vibrant career- you can.  Life isn’t a dress rehearsal and there aren’t any retakes, so make every day count- do it, do it all!

Love me

Feeling inspired by this lovely apartment building in downtown Portland.

 Sweet perfection

This entrance drips quiet elegance and artsy inspiration. My apartment of choice would be the beautiful balcony to your right. Imagine sipping your morning cup of coffee while tending the flowers. Yeah, I’m already there….

Wishing you a day of inspiration.

Anticipation and sprinkles of magic everywhere

The new vignette in my office space

 IMG_2237 6

A lot of dreaming and a little anticipation. I love to create dreamy little spaces filled with hope and magic. Yes, hope and magic are always a part of my day dreams.

The magic of little gifts wrapped in mystic atmosphere are my favorite kind of surprises. The woods are filled with plants and creatures and sometimes the unexpected.

Sometimes beauty is simple and untouched. Beauty comes in the most natural forms but can be enhanced with a little imagination. A little imagination can lead you right where you want to go.

Right to the  kind of place where dreams fly and wishes float.   Do you have a special place like that? A place where you feel inspired, hopeful and just a little dreamy. We all deserve a  special place to retreat.

I love making artsy spaces, creative niches and little vignettes inside and outside the house. It’s nice to find the unexpected in everyday places. As I’m sure you’ve noticed most of what inspires me isn’t the ordinary picture of a flower or sunset. I’m inspired by that little added twist or extra kick. What inspires you and makes you heart beat a little faster?

I’m a curious girl and I really want to know what you think. So please participate in my poll and vote below.

Inspire me…

Decorating, room themes, whimsical wall art and a sassy cow

IMG_1652

I love those days when I feel inspired even if it is only for a moment or two. A little inspiration here and there is what keeps my spark alive. It keeps me going and allows me to see the world  a little differently. There are so many wonderful places in blog land that are bursting with creativity and are a great resource for inspiration. What inspires you?

I thought about the things that inspire me and what might inspire someone to buy my photography. Photography is a funny thing. It’s so subjective as much or maybe more so than any other piece of art and just because you like something doesn’t mean you know what to do with it.  So I thought about what kinds of things one could do with a photographic print that would make it really shine or become a work of art. I decided that fine art prints are best when grouped together to set a theme. A room with a theme or grouping on the wall looks so pulled together and makes a statement.  It has something to say about the room’s purpose and the people in it. So I have begun a journey across the walls of my house. I’ve decided to use my photography to set the tone and give my rooms personality.

I started with the Princess Room and look what happened.

IMG_1668

I used a print from the the belly shoot in the center and then added Like a Whisper and Sugar Baby, two Etsy prints  from the studio featuring a precious little pink and white layette. The matching white frames pulled all the images together and made it look kind of chic and solidified the whole baby girl theme. You may have noticed that the artwork balancing in the candelabra looks familiar. It is a digital art print from the wonderful Miss Vanessa of A fanciful Twist. Yes, this print of Miss thing looks wonderful in the Princess Room.  It’s  in keeping with the pink girlie look but adds a little whimsy and I love whimsy.

IMG_1658

The perfect match.

Displaying these prints in a wide border frame allowed me to fore go the cost of a mat and downsize the frames for another cost savings. Yahoo, I’m thrifty!

I mentioned that I liked whimsy. Well get a load of the whimsy I shot yesterday while doing a little business in the country. I love it and wish I had a companion photo or two to pair with it. It wouldn’t really go in my house but it would definitely add a bit of whimsical charm- don’t ya think.

IMG_1654

“Pardon…  but do I have something between my teeth?”

I thought this cow was being friendly but I later learned that she has a really baaad attitude and was just being sassy- I like sassy!

I hope that was a four leaf clover she ate because I heard it said that if she doesn’t shape up her destiny lies in a steak burger. Ahhhh, poor sassy!

Sassy cow may make her way into my Etsy shop. I haven’t decided quite yet but I think she’s would fit right in with the  eclectic collection of Studio Pink.

Have a sassy Tuesdays!

Potions, intoxication and a little magic

img_2913-old-negative A very long time ago when the queen of day dreams was just a little girl she inspired to be a perfumist. This caused a little trouble and fight for time in the lou as she locked the door and drew a bath. She was indulging her creative side by mixing potions (Mom’s perfume) and such (sister’s body splash) until she got the scent just right. After an hour or so of listening to a little begging at her door, she would emerge with a secret bottle of magic tucked in her robe. It was the perfect lotion or just right shampoo with a little creative magic bubbling inside.

This day dreaming queen is once again playing perfumist but this time it’s no secret. She is mixing and plotting to get the alluring scent just right. A little sandalwood here and lime blossom there, drop of geranium and hint of citrus to freshen the air. She ‘ll get it right, you wait and see. How could she not with inspirations such as the sea swept breezes and tantalizing blossoms that grow along side a shell covered beach, occupied by modern beach babes drenched in a magical aroma of girl moxie.

The final concoction will be a control batch for the Island Girl’s Bohemian blend diffusers.  Each bottle will be hand mixed and unique. The fun has just begun and the aroma is making her a little giddy. She’s searching for a scent that creates the perfect mood of “come hear boy” and “dreamy inspiration”.

img_2821-2-vintage1 It will take the perfect blend of bubbling magic to please the nose and pass the test. Scent is the strongest trigger of memory, they say. I do believe it’s true. Have you ever entered a room that immediately threw you into memories of the past but you didn’t know why or how? It’s amazing how that happens.

(Ooops I’m wearing the same pink striped suit in this pic as the one from  last year’s beach pic in an earlier post. Geez maybe I am thrifty) 😉

The spiciness of a woodsy scent blended with a pop of floral and a spritz of citrus takes me back to my days of childhood freedom- I don’t know why.

What aromas make you feel, remember or dream?

I am impacted most by the  aroma, the color of  light or the music in a room or place. Sometimes it takes me by surprise and I’m totally unaware of what’s taking place while these elements work their magic behind the scene. Next time you enter a room,  pay attention to the way it makes you feel.  You might be surprised by the culprit of your impressions. Atmosphere is everything!!!

This is what’s playing in the background of my little bohemian laboratory today. Take a moment and listen with me.

and this…

I hope insight, inspiration, moxie and of a course a little magic follow you through your day.

from my spirit to yours -jj

Same beginning, But new ending

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” -Maria Robinson

img_2679-2

This quote is the perfect thought for spring.  I don’t think that the beginning of the year should be January 1st when everything lies asleep or in a dormant state. It should be more like April first when the earth is regenerating or starting over. Bird chirping weather is my favorite time of year. It’s the time of year when you can create that special place to go and escape from reality. Perhaps a little corner garden to connect with nature or a cozy nook to sip some tea and get lost in a good book. Somewhere off the beaten path, where beauty abounds and nobody knows your name.  I found so many places just like that during my island trip. It was truly perfect and I will miss it. The thing I’ll miss most about visiting a tropical island, aside from the warm weather, is the feeling of wide open spaces. I walked across the beach with the sounds of the ocean crashing in on the sand and the Terns taunting one another over a tiny crab in the surf, but then the sounds were hushed and a silence fell over my ears and mind as I entered the thick vines and trees that framed the shell crushed path (see the pic in this post) leading me to the cottage.

img_2861-2

I have so many, too many, thoughts and inspirations floating through this tiny head of mine. I think I am in need of an internal secretary, to start labeling and filing all of my ideas so they can be easily retrieved as needed. Instead all of my thoughts and inspirations are running about, bumping into one another, while jumping up and down in pursuit of my attention. This forces an automatic shut down or mental crash and then nothing gets done. Can anyone out there relate?

Some of the crazy ideas running rampant in my head are creating a dream garden in my yard that is centered among the trees with a gypsy tent and twinkling lights strung over head.

dream_garden

And then… the entrepreneurial side of me dreams of a successful business that feels like play.  I saw just that on a past visit to Nantucket Island and said, “why can’t I do that?” A young girl was selling flowers from a vintage truck on the side of the road. It was so chic and quaint at the same time. It looked like the perfect business for a day dreaming girl who loves flowers and wide open spaces.

flower-truck

So you see it gets pretty crowded up there at times, especially when you consider the permanent residents that dwell there full time- like the neurons who claim to be a writer from time to time and my creative side that must construct little trinkets in the late night hours and of course, the usual suspects like, logic (yes I have that) and reasoning kinds of stuff.

Oh well, enough day dreaming for today. It’s time to get busy and take care of a few much neglected tasks around the house.  Don’t get me wrong I am very thankful for everything… but that day dreaming girl is always close-by and refuses to be denied. Yes it’s back to reality and my pretty normal life.

But before we part ways for the day, I would like to leave you with this beautiful sunset from my trip.

img_2751-3

Clearly I wasn’t the only one enjoying the beautiful weather.

I hope you have a bird chirping kind of day.

A secret recipe and oh yeah… magic

img_1666

( a cool August evening over the pond- shot from my bathroom window)

The spark of excitement and the essence of change floating is around you in the form of tiny sparkles. Sometimes things are just more beautiful and vast than words can describe. It is as if there is another realm of existence that we refuse to see. It existed long before we were grown and could be seen perfectly through our childhood eyes. The spirit danced around us and we refused to give up on the magic. Take a moment and float in that bubble of all things fantastical and possible. Let yourself believe in a world that sparkles and a light that dances in your presence.

img_0980-2

(A magical sunset over the ocean)

Do you remember those days as a child when the realm of the fantastical was part of your every day and anything was possible? Make me a promise to never lose sight of your fairy tales and dreams. Don’t forget that you matter and are special. Don’t let life drag you down and take away your dreams, your magic, your life. Let go of the things and people who drag you down. Cherish the life you’ve created for yourself.

Great things can happen when you truly let go and allow your whimsical, fantastical self create. Yesterday I did just that and what transpired took my breath away. My vision of a world of peace and colorful happiness developed into this beautiful necklace.

img_2207 ( My new creation modeled by the Garden Hare)

The secret to this recipe is that it is absolutely free. Magic is all around us. Be adventurous and take a big bite, let it roll around on your tongue, taste the essence of freedom and savour the flavor of success. Let your intuition be your guide into the world of possibilities. So burn your to do list and bury your stress this is your day….Enjoy!
