I decided that today was the perfect day for a little extra color, something a bit unusual. So I digitally painted this otherwise tipical image of a sunflower in hopes that just maybe it would brighten up an oh so grey fall day. I love the passionate blues and cozy butter tones, it’s fresh and new. Michigan isn’t known for its sunshine but I have to say I don’t ever remember a year with more grey days and bitter temperatures than this one.
I’ve decided not to let the grey skies paint my mood. So today as I’m driving my car, running in and out of buildings and going about a normal day, I’ll keep my eye out for little bits of color and inspiration where ever I can find it. I wonder how different things could look if I changed my focus just a smidge. Just now looking out my window I notice how green the grass looks in the absence of sun. Perhaps those grey lifeless skies will be the perfect backdrop for a wide array of fall colors or maybe I’ll be surprised by a few snowflakes quietly falling on my windshield. The forcast is calling for a few flakes. I’ll let you know how this little experiment or shift in attitude works out.
Enjoy your day from a different perspective and see what happens.
This shot was taken after the storms were over and the sun came out. I wandered through the tall weeds to check on a mother deer and her two fawns. They were no where to be seen. They usually hide in this tall grass during the day. The babies are tiny, about the size of small dogs and I was worried about their safety because of the downed trees and power lines and the wide-spread flooding in my area.
I’m finally back on-line after a series of crazy storms, the last of which on Friday night took out my cable and Internet. I was lucky compared to many others in the area. numerous trees were split or totally uprooted. They fell across major roads causing a few detours and did serious damage to several houses in my area. A few blocks away a tree fell on a brand new car that had been purchased just the day before. The city was without power and as I drove out of town with my windows down I could hear the sound of chain saws coming from every direction. Unfortunately I didn’t get an opportunity to take any pictures because of my hectic weekend schedule.
I have an update to my Manx cat story. I’ve continued to leave food out for him/her but unfortunately this has attracted every stray in the neighborhood. Every time I look out my window there is another cat helping himself to the food dish. I really don’t want to become the cat lady but I do feel bad for the many animals that have lost their homes due to the recession. So I have kind of a dilemma on my hands.
Mr. Java and the princess taking a walk on father’s day. She saw a little girl ahead with a pink bike and although she is only 19 months old she is determined to ride a bike and of course how could she resist one in pink. Some day little one- don’t grow up too fast!
Well, I’m off to tackle a long list of must do crap. I’ll be back to catch up with some blog visits later today or this evening. Take care!
She knew this moment was too good to pass up. A time to wonder and imply just a little. Two chairs, two woman and a beautiful day at the beach or maybe it went a little like this: two woman, two chairs, a little gossip, a lot of laughter. an ice cold lemonade, and sand between her toes- priceless.
As she looked through her lens she wondered what these two woman had in common were they sisters, best friends or just mere acquaintances having a chat, none of that seemed to matter during the perfect day at the beach. They were enjoying this moment with sandy toes, zesty sips and a tiny break through of laughter.
A day dream, ice in a cup, the sunlight in her hair, she listens, then hears a noise beyond the sand, two friends engaging in a chat…
She laughs to herself, then goes about her day.
But the sunlight in her window makes the day dream replay, she laughs to herself.
Her thoughts are caught by a thread, a moment, a glance, a whisper of curiosity that plays in her head.
Do you ever observe a moment in someone else’s life and wonder what is happening or what it means to that person? I do- quite often. I like to play this game: what”s his/her occupation, where do they live, or what are they saying, feeling or thinking. It’s fun and a great way to spend a sunny day at the beach.
Here it is almost June and I’m still day dreaming about the beach. Why, you ask…. perhaps it’s because as I write to you on the 18th of May, I’m looking down at my little dog sitting on the heat register and then out my window at the earth now blanketed in a heavy layer of frost. Brrrrrr!
When you live in Michigan you never know what Mother Nature will bring; sunny and 60 one day and frosty and 30 the next. I never pack away my winter clothes for the season. Have a great Monday!!!!
She walked out the door and noticed the sound of little birds chattering from the nest. A moment later she was struck by the allure of a sweet aroma coming from down the lane. She walked closer to get a better view of this magnificent tree covered in white. Along the way there was much to see. Delicate little buds were just waiting for the right time to burst into blossom. The air was clean and felt so fresh as the breeze blew past her cheek and the sun was warm and toasty on her bare arms. Who would have thought that there would be bare arm weather ever again, after the long winter we endured.
There were cute garden niches here and there as she followed her nose.
In fact there was so much to see that she almost forgot why she had set out on this path at all. The colors, the interesting shapes, the sound of the birds and the buzz of the bees, did their best to divert her attention and take her on another path. But she stayed the course. Right on track for once in her life and continued on without temptation.
She was so glad to be out and about enjoying this nice spring day. It had been such a long time without warmth, without cheerful sounds, without color. Just then she looked to the right and spotted the most beautiful color she had ever seen. A crimson red flickering in the sunlight.
The leaves seemed to be waving at her as the breeze blew through. Her journey had begun just moments before as a quest to find spring and take in it’s aroma but she realized that spring was all around her not just down the lane on that magnificent tree. It was on the left and on the right and yes right smack dab in front of her.
Living and breathing as it soaked in the sunlight and drank from the soil. The coming of spring had been so anxiously awaited and that wait was so worth it.
She vowed to herself that this year she would not take the fine weather for granted but appreciate every moment of warmth and every glimpse of color that came her way. She would enjoy this day and everyday that nature had to offer.
This tree was an explosion of creamy whites and fresh green. It was all very yummy to the eyes and heaven to the nose. A smell so sweet that it made her toes curl right out of her sandals. The result of this walk down the colorful path on a quest for spring, was a great big smile 🙂
Hope you’re enjoying the weather as much as I am.
It’s a morning of beautiful light and spring like temperatures. A day of yard work and fresh air has made this body a little sore but no matter- I have a bottle of Advil handy. There is nothing like a day of fresh air and sunshine to change my attitude which was in serious need of change after a very long winter.
Do you all remember me ranting about wanting to create a romantic garden space of twinkling lights and lush plants that protect a secret spot to cozy up for the night? Well, I don’t think all that’s going to manifest itself this year but I did manage to get a little cozy cottage (6’by6′) to place in my garden. When I get the landscaping and decorating done ( yes, I decorate everything) I’ll let you have a peek.
I mentioned in the previous post that I was starting an e-course today. We are 165 people taking an Unravelling journey together. I’m both curious and excited to begin the journey and meet new faces.
I hope you get the chance to take a walk outside and wiggle your toes in the grass or dirt.
Yes, I’ve noticed that I have little Pebbles Flintstone feet. I’ve heard that said just a few times.
Enjoy your day!
