Pink, Pink and more Pink!
It’s a winter wonderland out there today, nothing but white, cold, not a car in sight. So what’s a winter-hating, cabin feverish girl to do? Day dream… pretend, drool and indulge in a little color therapy. I think I could live in Betsy Johnson’s world of pink heaven. Could you? I love the quirky fashions she creates and I’m envious of her beautiful penthouse and very bold choice of color. Do you ever wonder what drives a person like her, how do they step out of the ordinary, get noticed and become an icon.
The dogs are in a hibernative sleep and the cat keeps looking at me, out the window and then back at me, as if to say, do something would you. His faint meow is filled with desperation on the verge of insanity. Get in line Ricky-bobby!
This is the perfect day to get caught up on indoor chores and office organizing, oh sure, perfect for someone who doen’t lack discipline and motivation for such things. This girl is feeling non-productive and she certainly can’t bear another day of incarceration, instead she’ll hop into her tiny, little sports car with 2″ tires and run a few errands. What would Betsy do? If she (me) makes her way through the seven plus inches of snow she will be sure to be first in line at the post office and most likely the only one waiting for a hot cup of mocha, tall, non-fat and no whip, please.
Wish me luck, I better throw in the shovel. he he…
PS: All my love to our friend Renee and her family!
My Vintage Santa loves the new snow
I’ve been away for a few days. No I wasn’t traveling, shopping or having some fun. A little flu bug decided to visit me but I think he’s moving out and not any too soon. This next week is loaded, I’m working extra hours, have several holiday parties, a polital rally for a friend running for State Rep and I haven’t wrapped a thing. I’m sure most of you are in the same boat.
I love the Holidays and so want to take a little time to enjoy everything it has to offer. I’ts with that spirit that I share a couple of my favorite Holiday window dispays with you.
Saks Fifth Avenue- so whimsical and fun!
Bergdorf Goodman- I love this winter fantasy!
Through my office window-It may not scream Christmas but it’s festive and fun.
Enjoy your day.
Several years ago while on a vintage treasure hunt I came across an old chair. It was simple and sturdy but what I found most intriguing was the chippy paint and delicate details. I didn’t have a plan for it, so there it sat in my office, lonely and bare, until a few months ago when I decided to give it a purpose and adorned it with a quirky vignette in pink. The hat was found at a vintage clothing shop and the umbrella was used for a recent photo shoot but the shoes are special. They are seldom worn and aren’t the easiest things to walk in but when I do, I become a princess. Why you ask? Well, it could be the silky fabric or maybe it’s the ruffle detail and perfect craftmanship. They are beautiful but I think it’s the way they delicately grace my foot and come to the perfect little point that make them special. It takes me back to a time when I was a little girl playing dress-up in grandma’s closet.
There is a part of me that desperately wants to de-clutter this place and live in a house of clean lines and open spaces but then that other girl with her quirky style comes out and leaves her trinkets and treasures all over the house. There are days when she really gets on my nerves but at other times she makes me smile and reminds me of the little girl living inside this woman in the mirror.
The shelves are dusted and newly stocked items have been carefully displayed in the studio.
A faded rose just outside my window
melting into the perfect whisp of pink
a luring scent
a climbing tendril
the whisper of fall
It’s the little things that make the difference
a world without conflict
life in a peaceful kingdom
love for all
Feeling a lust for
and the need for
Wishing you a peaceful day of lusty green and whisper pink.
It’s that time of year when gardens fade and a nip in the air begins to alter the earth to a rich patina of fall color. A few flowers are still hanging in but the garden’s vibrant colors are gone for the season. I took a little drive yesterday on a quest for the peafowl farm that sells peacock feathers along the road side. I had passed it by a few weeks ago but didn’t feel the need to stop. Yesterday that need came calling, so I set out on a hunt for a little turquoise and green. No feathers to be had but I did come across a beautiful field planted several acres deep with gorgeous sunflowers. It made my trip totally worth while.
The sky was grey and dull but this field offered the perfect pop of color to the country side. A whisper of fall crept through my window as I captured this shot. There are good things to be found in every season- remind me of that when I’m whining because the world outside my window is covered in white and temps are hovering below zero.
Faded roses are creeping their way into the play house window, making the love shack soft and dreamy. This rose is melting it’s way into the perfect shade of pink-love that! My favorite colors are soft pinks, creamy whites, mossy greens and chocolate browns. Mmmm
The English Oaks are showering me with an abundance of acorns in the perfect shades of mossy green and chocolate brown. The season is changing slowly and beautifully. I’m curious to hear about the signs of change in your neck of the woods. Tell me how Mother Nature lets you know that fall is just around the corner. Do you hear a whisper?
Studio Pink is in need of a little restocking so sometime this week I will be adding a few images to the shelves- stay tuned for that.
Have a colorful Monday.
Well, if you haven’t guessed by now, I’ll tell you, I am a girlie girl and love all things soft and pink. The look, the feel and the very essence of femininity are softly whispered in pale pink panties that are hidden underneath a business suit or your favorite grungy pair of jeans. I grew up in a pink bedroom and quite often wore pink nail polish but the rest of me was all jeans and tee shirts. I like just a hint of pink to soften my edges.
There is nothing more sweet and special than tiny white baby tee’s with just a hint of pink. My heart melted when I saw this (pictured below) in a local boutique and I couldn’t resist. It is incredibly soft and yummy to the eyes. I think I could work in a baby boutique and just play with the clothes, making little vignettes here and there all day long. Baby boutiques or boutiques or any kind are a rarity in my area these days. Yes, it’s true they are too expensive and don’t offer enough variety to satisfy a busy Mom’s schedule but the experience of walking through a store filled with pretty things that are displayed to perfection is magic. It’s not a place where you go in to buy a complete wardrobe, no, just one or two things for a special photograph or very first outing. It’s an exception, a lovely experience and one time event that you won’t ever forget.
This shot was meant to melt your heart just a little. He hee.
As you know from the countless photographs of the little princess and some big princesses or more like fashion divas, I like to take an unusual and maybe even a little crazy shots of people. Recently, I was asked to take a few kid shots for a mother of two boys. She saw a few of my pics on another website and liked my style. Of course I was thrilled and will probably jump at the chance as long as she realizes that I take a journalistic approach to photography and have a somewhat quirky style. I’m not into the perfectly posed studio shots and I never use a flash, well almost never. I like the type of photographs that bring out the essence of a personality or maybe a side that’s hidden on most days. There is a shining star in everyone and I want to bring that to life in pictures. This may be a new area of my creativity to explore. I’m always up for an adventure. So if you live in the Michigan area and would like to have some shots done give me a try. I probably won’t charge much until I get my feet wet and feel confident in my ability to capture the real person in just the way they love to be seen.
That’s all for today. I better get something done around here before I’m off to photograph pregnant bellies -oh my!
