Rainy Day Dreamers

The princess sporting her tu tu in the park.

I think my love for dress-up and all things girlie started long ago in grandma’s attic. As a little girl I just loved to sneak up to the attic at grandma and grandpa’s and peek at the fancy hankies and cutesy aprons tucked away in a curvy old dresser. The dresser had an adjustible mirror that was perfect to get a look-see at my reflection in grandma’s church hats. They were kept in the stacks and stacks of boxes in every corner of the room. The treasures were endless as my imagination took root and  sprouted wings in that little attic space.  Even now I love to play dress up and have an incurable fascination with vintage jewelry and fancy hats.

I wish I had realized then how precious those things would be to me today and asked for a keepsake or two. I was a young girl when my grandparents passed and didn’t hang on to old mementos. I wish now that I had some of those attic treasures to tuck away for a day just like today. The house is quiet and dark on this rainy day; the perfect time to play a little dress up with my girls.

I usually don’t like the rain, it’s dark and depressing but for some reason today I don’t mind. It’s a good day for thoughts and reminiscing about treasures found on rainy days in grandma’s attic.

Wishing you many lovely day-dreams on this rainy Wednesday.

The Island Girl and her travel treasures

img_2675

The Island girl is back from her beautiful seaside adventure. It was a truly inspiring trip. The island and the people were lovely. The above picture is Laika lane. It’s absolutely gorgeous and my cottage was located midway down this lane toward the beach. My morning jaunt to the sand was filled with an intoxicating scent of flowers and ripening bananas.

The trip inspired me to start a line of Island Girl Bohemian blends. I am still working on the perfect concoction to capture the subtle essence of a woman’s perfume mingled with a fresh sea breeze. The mixture isn’t quite right just yet but I have a bottle all ready for our grand prize winner. As promised I have put your names into my magic little cap and pulled out a lucky soul to try out a bohemian blend . Before I reveal the winner, I’ll reveal the contents of the treasure that will be waiting on the winner’s door step. It is a little diffuser set that I put together with a citrus oil blend, a few tiny shells and tumbled sea glass. The bottle is dressed up with a tiny tropical umbrella, vintage beads and ribbons.  I picked up a couple other little surprises like dangerous bath salts and washed up sea treasures, while on the island that will be included in the package. I’m a little tight for time today but I will post a picture of the Travel treasure along with the winning name tomorrow.  Have a great day and don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the big reveal.

Bon Voyage Travel Treasure Give-away

img_2564This is it… the day of JJ’s  Treasure Travel Give-away. Okay, first of all, I’m so excited. I don’t know why because you’re the one who may find a little seaside treasure in your mail box. Your wait is just a little longer. My plane leaves tomorrow and returns Sunday the 19th. Did you notice that my travel gnome has changed? Well, Ug the gnome, kind of had an accident. Oopps! This fellow was all too glad to step in. One problem is that he is rather large and his pointy cap could be considered a weapon, I suppose. Warning don’t piss off the chick on the plane with the gnome who is headed for  Captiva Island. Hee He.

The rules are quite simple, actually there aren’t any. I don’t like rules too much. That’s why I was never very good at playing games. Yeah, I cheat sometimes.

So here goes. Leave me a message on this post. Tell me you’re seeking treasure or better yet tell me a story about your travels or favorite vacation. Or if you’re shy just leave your name but you know how I love stories. LOVE THEM! That’s it. Pretty simple. When I return I will print, cut and dump the names in a magic hat, probably this one.javajune-jj This hat is magic because it makes me feel like I’m on a mission when I wear it and when I’m on a mission, exciting things tend to happen.

Once this magic hat reveals the lucky name, I will email you for an address and poof, I’ll be at your door. No seriously, that’s just creepy. I’ll send your package off and a secret travel treasure will arrive in your mail box. Make sure when you leave your name there is a valid addy attached.

I will probably be MIA during the next few days. If I get a chance and I find a little WIFI, I may post some pics or just pop in to say hi , I will try, but don’t count on it for sure.  I want to wish you all a peaceful Easter weekend. Have a great week and by all means leave me a message or two. I do hope the weather is good for you. Enjoy the spring sun and let your dreams run free…..

beach-dreaming

This is me, last year, at Sand Key. I’m always happiest when on the beach with the sun on my face and the surf in my ear. I just go with the flow and the rhythm is good.

Don’t forget to sign up for a little pirate treasure. Good luck!!!

Bye for now…. be safe always… be happy daily… day dream often… and be free forever……..

I love forever!!!

Travel Treasures by mail

sand key sunsetThis was taken at Sand Key just before sunset

So I’ve been thinking and planning and plotting all day, because my lovely vacation is just one week away.  I have something special in mind and I would like to let you in on my secret. I am feeling a little guilty about neglecting my sofa duties and leaving you all behind. So that got me to thinking and hoping that I could do something special while I was away.

My trips are filled with exploring, photographing, lounging and collecting- oh, I almost forgot about the eating part (glorious seafood dripping with hot salty butter). No matter where I travel I always manage to bring a little of my trip back with me. This sometimes includes shells, rocks, sea-glass, and sand- yes I said sand. I use it in sea scapes and many other peculiar projects.

Now to get to the point that I’m trying to make- this is what I am proposing- I would like to hold a drawing for a piece of my travel treasure. Now here’s the part where you come in, all those who are interested in participating can leave me a message on my bon voyage post, stating that they would like to participate. The winning name that I draw from my magic hat will be sent a secret package.  So what does this mean to all of you who covet  free goodies in the mail? Keep an eye out for my special post, requesting a message from all who want to partake in my little give-away. That’s it…  Have a wonderful weekend.
