Snow Day

As I sit here chatting with you I’m reminded of my a day in the ’70s when the snow came with a vengeance. The drifts were so high we couldn’t see out our living room window. The roads were impassable, even the highway we lived had become a sledding hill. I was a child so this predicament was no inconvenience to me, it just ment no school for a week.  Wahoo!!!

We’ll we are definitely not that point today but the 5 or six inches across the lawn is both beautiful and very inconvenient. The trees looks gorgeous all dressed in white and the ground is so pristine under a thick blanket of fluff. The skies are heavy and pasty and the chill has sent a couple wild cats into my garage for shelter. They sneak through the doggie door and make themselves comfortable. My dogs are baffled at the audacity of these creatures who lay in their doggie beds and snarl at every passer-by.

It might be a couple more months before we see the sun again and I hope I can last that long. Hey, Deb maybe you should get my room ready, just in case I decide to make an emergency trip to the desert. Hee he…

There is plenty to do inside and when I feel a little cabin fever setting in I can just fire up the wii and go for a run. I have never been a fan of winter but I don’t remember it bothering me nearly as much when I was young.

I had to share this picture of the princess in her “Snow White” jelly pumps,( she has the entire set of Disney princess shoes) flipping through a book. Her hair had been in tiny pony tails but after she removed the ribbons they remained as little stubs upon her head-too cute!

Enjoy your day no matter the weather- if you’re some place warm and sunny please soak up some warmth for me. I’m headed off to work.  We have transformed the store to look like springtime-love it!

Mother nature’s spell and a deep sleep

IMG_2875

Deep sleep leads to a fuzzy head and misty eyes that take time to focus in the morning. The cool nights have forced me into a deep slumber lately. This has been a strange summer for sure. The days are pleasant, no beautiful, with temps in the seventies, sometimes eighties and nights that dip down in the fifties. The morning is thick with a heavy dew and milky mist over the pond that melts away inch by inch. The days are dry and breezy and the nights are cool and moist. It has felt much more like fall than summer. For some reason the change of season always forces me to sleep very deeply, kind of like an animal preparing for hibernation. My mind and body have been fooled by mother nature’s unusual temperament this summer. She has cast quite a spell and it’s making me sleepy. Although I prefer a warm, borderline hot, summer full of sunny days and sultry nights this one hasn’t been bad, just different.

I’m not sure what this departure from the norm has meant or what the Earth is trying to say but something is up, I can feel it. Maybe I’m just overly sensitive and read more into a situation that needs to be there but then maybe not. Perhaps this is just a way of diverting our attention away from the state of the economy.  I am one who doesn’t really pay attention to every detail, I don’t listen to a lot of news nor do I read the paper but I have an all knowing kind of six sense that is usually quite accurate. I feel things in the air and watch the animals and plants respond to the Earth and this year feels so different, maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s not.  The animals that usually keep to the woods in the summer have stayed close to the house and made themselves more visible than in the past five years we’ve lived here. I have to wonder what the coming winter will bring. I hope it will be unusually mild and short unlike this past winter that seemed to never end. For now I am going to enjoy the remainder of my summer, strange as it is.

All this talk about mother nature reminded me of the other night around 11:00 pm when I walked out my front door and was greeted by a big fat racoon. He quickly grabbed onto a little flower pot and held it out like a beggar asking for money. I laughed and tried to shoo him away but he put down the pot and came closer. I wasn’t sure whether to back away or stand my ground. I started to get a little nervous when all of a sudden the feral Mamma cat I been feeding came to my rescue. She got between us, snarled and swiped her paw at his face. He turned and ran. That was two nights ago and I haven’t seen him since. I guess she does appreciate my hand-outs.  Animals are both strange and amazing sometimes.

Well that’s quite enough rambling for one day. I have plenty of picture editing to do and my hair needs a make-over in the worst way.  Hey Deborah a week from today I will be flying over your house on my way to the coast-look up and wave.

Wishing you a dewey day filled with beautiful reflections.

My stalker, a travel give away, and the gnome

img_2554This was the scene on my deck yesterday. Today is much better, thank you. He is cute and yes I did feel sorry for him but there is something you should know about this fellow. He is my stalker. He sits on the deck and peeks in my windows. Sometimes he jumps up on the potting table to get a better view of me. He is a little creepy and sometimes even scares the shit out of me. I can sense his eyes watching me and then all of a sudden he jumps against the window, as if he thinks I’m going to open it and welcome him in. Some days I find myself talking to him as a work around the house. Yes I know it sounds a little crazy but I’m just thankful that the neighbors can’t hear or see me.

I’m slowly getting ready to fly south for a little sun therapy. After this long winter I desperately need it. I think I’ve mentioned this before but I am not a cold weather fan. Give me sun drenched days spent in nothing more then a tank top, a pair of shorts and flip-flops, or better yet bare-feet. The more heat, the less clothes, the better!

Okay so about my trip and travel treasure give away- I will be in search of something unique to the area I’m visiting. It is a small island and there are very few shops. Mostly fine art and other expensive things like that. Sorry I won’t be purchasing a pricey painting or anything close to that for you 😦 I will be hunting for some cool treasures from the sea and who knows what else. To help me in my search of treasure, I have brought in a bit of an expert on travel. Meet Ug the traveling gnome.

img_2560-2I’m sure you’ve seen his larger cousin on Travelocity. Well apparently the check out lady at Target had not. I noticed her making an odd face as she whizzed him through the scanner. So I tried to explain my intentions for him. Well, I should have just kept quiet because the more I tried to explain the higher her eyebrows got. Now before you get the idea that I am a little crazy,  keep in mind that I’m now a woman, (who BTW is not going to reveal her age), but still a silly girl at heart. I admit that I have age issues. I still think of myself as a young girl until I look in the mirror and see this woman stairing back. That’s when I say, “what the hell, who let her in?”

That’s all for now because I really should finish packing. I have until Friday but time has a way of getting away from me.  Keep your eyes open for that give away post.

Take care… jj
